To provide Maydena’s residents with quality water that meets Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, TasWater built a new water treatment plant (WTP) at the town’s existing service reservoir site. Raw water is sourced from the existing extraction point and gravity fed to the new WTP via the existing intake, break pressure tanks and gravity main. The new WTP supplies treated and chlorinated water to a new 900 kilolitre clear water (CWS) next to the WTP before being distributed to customers using the existing water pipe system. Additional pumping has been provided on the CWS outlet to ensure adequate service pressure for residential and fire-fighting purposes.
